Story

The Cassava Processing Project (CPP) aims to enhance the livelihoods of cassava farmers in Amankwakrom and other communities in the Kwahu Afram Plains District, most of whom are women, by generating income, reducing poverty, and improving their overall well-being, along with that of their families and the broader community. Additionally, the project seeks to make farming more appealing to the youth, who often migrate to cities in search of better opportunities, thus impacting local development negatively. By engaging them in the agricultural sector, the Cassava Processing Project hopes to retain this valuable workforce in the community. Furthermore, the project’s implementation will address the health issues faced by farmers using outdated methods to produce gari, which require long hours of hard labor and expose them to harmful smoke from the firewood, leading to respiratory problems. The cassava processing initiative will create job opportunities for youth, enable farmers to add value to their crops more sustainably and efficiently and provide easy access to a local and export market for their products. The revenue generated will not only support the project’s sustainability but also fund community development projects through the Kwahu Asabi Royal Foundation ( KARF ), contributing significantly to the economic growth of the Kwahu Afram Plains District.
